HTRI, Exclusive Worldwide Licensee

Exclusive worldwide provider since 2014

HTRI (Heat Transfer Research, Inc.) holds an exclusive worldwide license to apply I 2’s vapor infusion technology within heat exchangers, associated piping systems, and water processing applications. The partnership originated from Michael Radicone’s presentation at the 2013 International Conference on Heat Exchanger Fouling and Cleaning in Budapest.

Successful implementations include cruise shipping, offshore drilling, geothermal systems, and aquaculture. In 2024, Michael received the Mike Ackrill Award from the UK Heat Transfer Society.

Norwegian Sun, Engine Coolers

8 years foul-free

Both sets of main engine coolers (forward and aft) operated without cleaning for 26+ months. First Engineer reported all four low-temperature coolers in good condition. No biological fouling. No mineral fouling. Zero unplanned maintenance.

Semi-Submersible Drilling Ship

8 thruster coolers (3,800 kW each), 8 main engine coolers (5,060 kW each), 4 miscellaneous exchangers, 10 vapor infusion systems. Thruster #6 operated continuously for 3 months and outperformed recently cleaned units at 100% load.

Fouling eliminated

Severe iron-reducing bacteria fouling drove back pressure from design 6 psi to 30+ psi. Since installing vapor infusion, the facility has not chemically or mechanically cleaned the heat exchanger. Gate valves and well screens cleared.

45-day controlled comparison: no treatment, air only, and iodinated air. Control and air-only showed significant fouling. Iodinated air demonstrated substantially reduced fouling.
